Washington State University – Located in Pullman, the U.S. News & World Report ranks Washington State University among the top 60 public universities, and in addition to the more than 200 fields of study offered to undergraduates, students can attend classes through the Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles at the school’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. This is the only state-supported four-year Apparel and Textiles program, and it offers a choice between a BS or MA degree with a concentration in Merchandising or Apparel. The completion of an internship (usually with leading companies) is expected of Washington State University students, and usually takes place during their junior year. Some students choose to study abroad. Additional experience comes from participation in student organization and local fashion shows.

Central Washington University – The Fashion Merchandising program at Central Washington University allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree in the field with courses that concentrate on evaluating retail needs, industry trends, consumer habits, and analyzing the overall market. Students may also choose to minor in Apparel Design. Opportunities to gain professional experience include internships, guest speakers, and field trips.
