Marymount University – Marymount University in Arlington sees students enter the Fashion Design bachelor’s degree program held at the Fashion Design and Merchandising Department of the School of Arts & Sciences. The school offers the only program of its kind in the Washington, DC-area. Fashion Merchandising students often choose between a minor in Fashion Design, Communication or Business Administration as a way to boost their chances of employment after graduation.  Internships have placed students in the middle of operations for the likes of Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom as a way to gain experience in the field. Virginia Commonwealth University – U.S. News & World Report highly ranks a number of programs at the School of the Arts of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), which is located in Richmond. VCU’s Fashion Program is considered one of the best in the nation – offering programs that culminate in a Bachelor’s in Fashion Merchandising or a BFA in Fashion Design. Graduates have since accepted positions in some of the most well-known of fashion companies and businesses, such as Nordstrom, Perry Ellis, William Sonoma, and Harper’s Bazaar.

Virginia Tech University – The College of Liberal Arts and Human Services at Virginia Tech University offers a highly rated fashion program through the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management. Students may earn a BS with an option in Apparel Product Development and Merchandising Management (APDM). The school also provides exciting opportunities to study abroad in locales around the world, or intern at companies, such as Kenneth Cole.

There are also Art Institute campus locations found in Virginia Beach, Arlington and Northern Virginia, that offers a number of programs that focus on fashion retailing, as well as fashion and retail management.
